Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data NEO: The Game (« we », « us ») collects through this website (neothegame.com), how it is used, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using this website, you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
The website is operated by the developer of NEO: The Game (« Nalem »). You can reach us at any time through the official Discord community.
2. Unified game & website accounts
This website and the game share a single account system. When you register — on the website or in-game — the following data is stored:
- Your username (4–12 characters, permanent and cannot be changed later)
- Your email address (used for password recovery and important notices)
- A salted, cryptographically hashed version of your password (PBKDF2 — we never store passwords in plain text)
- Your in-game data: cities, ships, research, statistics and other gameplay progress
Changes you make to your email or password from your account page on this website are synchronized with your game account, and vice-versa. Your username is the same on both.
3. Data we collect on the website
- Account data: username, email, display name, password hash, registration date.
- Technical data: IP address, browser user-agent and standard server logs, used for security and spam prevention.
- Comments: if you leave a comment, the data in the comment form, your IP address and browser user-agent are collected to detect spam. An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it; the Gravatar privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy.
4. Cookies
This website uses cookies strictly for essential purposes:
- Login cookies: kept for two days (or two weeks if you tick « Remember me »). Logging out deletes them.
- Comment cookies: optional, stored for one year to remember your name and email when commenting again.
- Cookie consent: a cookie records your consent choices for the cookie management panel.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Embedded content from other sites (videos, widgets) may set their own cookies, governed by their own policies.
5. Who sees your data
Your personal data is used only to operate the game and the website. We never sell, rent or trade your personal data to third parties. Payment transactions are processed entirely by Itch.io and are subject to Itch.io’s own privacy policy.
6. Data retention
Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your account and personal data; in-game progress tied to your account is erased with it. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security purposes.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location (including under the GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to its processing. You can exercise these rights by contacting us through the Discord community or by asking for account deletion from your account page. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Security
Passwords are stored as salted PBKDF2 hashes, the site is served over HTTPS, and access to account data is restricted to the minimum necessary. No system is 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password.
9. Children
The game and website are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game and website evolve. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the website after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
